A couple of months ago I was approached by a group of four creative and enthusiastic entrepreneurs that were starting a new business to make interior design affordable and easily available over the internet. They knew that I was experienced in providing "e-design" services and wanted me to be a part of their team of designers.
After I helped them to solidify their Design in A Box concept, and designed the office of their first client, they are off and running!
Tastemaker launches to the public today in a closed beta test version. It functions by allowing users to submit a request for proposal that answers questions about their likes, dislikes, lifestyle, budget, and room dimensions along with photos of their space. The client then chooses from 3 designers who have responded to them with ideas.
The designers charge a flat fee per room; anywhere from $600 to $2250, coming in far below traditional design fees.
Once the client receives their Design Box, which includes floor plans, elevations, paint colors, fabric swatches, DIY options and a list of resources, they are ready to order all of their furnishings and either complete the job themselves or enlist the help of a local contractor that has been recommended to them. They are also assigned a Tastemaker concierge that helps guide them through the ordering process.
I'm very happy to be one of the featured designers working with Tastemaker and wish them the best of luck.
Tastemaker is a member only site, so go on and get your invitation now!
As an Interior Designer, I am constantly looking for new ways of re-purposing and re-using what people already have as well as finding new resources for affordable furnishings. This is just a place to share great resources, ideas, information about the trades, and ways of doing things yourself to help make your own home fabulous!
