Time To Make A Statement!

Aaron Brothers Art Supply is having their annual one cent sale through January 28th. Now is the time to pick up a HUGE canvas and get the second for ONE CENT!

What can you do with a large canvas you ask? You can make a HUGE statement!

All you need is a little inspiration,

Mario Uribe Painting (KWID Design)

2 paint colors and 1 brush.

First paint your background color on the entire canvas and let it dry. You can use acrylic paint from Blick or you can use whatever extra interior or exterior house paint that you may have left over from another project.

Depending on the paint, you'll need to let it dry for 2 to 5 hours.

Next comes the fun part...

Takesada Matsutani Painting (Juan Montoya Design)

Soak your brush in your second color and either clear your mind and paint a circle (careful...don't think too much and do not correct any mistakes; that's part of the art of enso)

Grant Gibson painting

or...think about that @#*&! person who rear ended you at the red light while they were texting and go for it!

Either technique only takes a few minutes but can be amazingly cathartic and produce beautiful results.

Cisco Home

One of my favorite "go to" spots is right on Hayes Street in San Francisco. Cisco Home carries all of their own uniquely designed furniture, lighting, and accessories.

Everything from their chairs to their lights are hand made in their Los Angeles warehouse with sustainably farmed woods, organic materials, and happily employed craftsman that take pride in what they are creating.

Costa Rica's Sustainable Building Material...Bamboo

Among the giant Philodendron leaves, vines, palms, and wildlife in the jungles of Costa Rica, there grows many species of bamboo. Some more giant than others.

Bamboo grows quickly, multiplying exponentially. You can actually hear it growing. So what a perfect resource for building!

They have so much beautiful, tropical and often rustic architecture in Costa Rica...and quite a bit includes bamboo.

Wasted...Design In The Details

I've had waste on my mind lately...specifically, where to put the waste if not in a generic basket or plastic container. You know you can make or break your room in the details.

New DIY Hidden Cabinet Doors

Happy New Year Everyone!

Remember the old antique mirror that I refinished and limed? That mirror is now in my new bathroom. Here's a sneak peak...more photos to come later.

Traditional medicine cabinets and their designs can be so limiting. I used the mirror as a door for my medicine cabinet above my sink. I recently spotted this new campaign by the World Wildlife Fund Australia in a design site that I subscribe to. It sure made me stop and think. The graphics are brilliant but the message is clear.

If you're trying to find the perfect gift for someone with everything this holiday season, consider a donation to the WWF. It's also a great project for kids to get involved in as it doesn't require much. A small donation makes a big difference.

Grecian Laurel Wreath + A Fun Gift Idea For Friends

I've always loved the Greek Laurel wreath (crest) of ancient times and thought it would be a fun and simple project for a slightly different take on the traditional holiday version. It's straight forward and simple yet elegant.

Materials you will need:

Approximately 3 small Magnolia tree branches
2 pieces of cardboard
Glue gun with hot glue sticks
Gold leaf or gold acrylic paint
