The Unveiling

February 28, 2012

I love it when a plan comes together! In this case, I also get to enjoy it on a daily basis!

In case you don't remember, before the the holidays we had a small plumbing emergency in our master bathroom. Because the pipes were all rotten and the bathroom is on the second floor, we had to stop everything and move the bathroom renovation to the top of the list...immediately! Luckily I already had a plan drawn up and my favorite contractor willing to fit me in between other jobs.

Let me remind you the way it looked before.

All dark wood, rotting wood sink, bathtub we never used, and did I say DARK?

Voila! Here is the transformation:

Light...Light...Light
It is officially a "wet room". The entire room can get wet (even though it doesn't)

Carrara honed 12x12 marble tiles (2x2 tiles for the walk-in shower area) from Import Tile, fabulous Grohe fixtures, hidden (Do It Myself) cabinet with door over the commode,

Inset wall cabinet with antique (Do It Myself) limed mirror mounted directly over the niche with a piano hinge.

My bronze Manzanita Branch Sconces (that will be available in my new shop VERY soon).

Hope you enjoy my Pepe - Lunché Design!

Who Needs More Storage Space?

February 24, 2012

If you've exhausted all of your traditional resources for storage and still feel you need more, but really don't have enough, I have a few additional places to look for some.

Use your dining room as a library. If you don't already have some shelving, install some. Then crawl under your dining table and check out the available real estate there! If you have a rectangular table, you can always use a 1x6 or 1x12 board or plank to span the two ends of the table and create extra storage.

Sitting Pretty

February 21, 2012

I've never really thought much either way of the Grandin Road catalogue, however, it arrived the other day in the mail and I was surprised to see some great stools at fantastic prices!

Alsace Metal Stool $49. (Great Deal!)

Do you need a stool to sit on, put your feet up, or use as an accent table?

Double Ringer

February 17, 2012

I was so inspired by the incredible chandeliers in the UC Berkeley International House that I decided to try my hand at producing one myself!

It takes a bit of patience and fine motor skills, but if you'd like a weekend challenge I say GO FOR IT!

This is what you'll need:

2 wood rings (I used one 24" and one 30" diameter ring)
Several copper or steel 1/4" pipe clamps (I used 22 copper clamps as I had 22 lights)
Several 1/4" brass or steel screws (you'll need two for each clamp)
1 3/4' Candelabra ...

Pillow Talk

February 10, 2012

We're in between seasons, and its just about now that I can use a quick and easy change to perk things up around the house. Of course one of the easiest ways to do that is change up some pillows. Not only are these some of the most fabulous soft, colorful, and beautiful pillows, but they are on sale!

These are all hand made from Uzbekistan hand dyed silk velvet and are available in the Etsy shop, Sukan.

My favorites are the reds,

the blues,

It's a Bird, It's a Plane...

February 7, 2012

They use trees and even telephone wires as a structure for support, they gather moisture and nutrients from the air around them, and they require little or no care.

They are usually found in the tropics but can survive anywhere that has natural light, moisture, and is temperate.

They are called Epiphytes. Many mosses, lichens, and ferns are Epiphytes.

Tillandsia's, which are readily available on the internet or through local specialized nurseries such as Flowerland, can make a beautiful livin...

Flowerland

February 3, 2012

On the quiet part of Solano Avenue in Albany there lives a nursery that has been there for years. It was a sleepy little spot with nothing unusual going on until...Voila! Three years ago Carly Dennett bought this little nursery and turned it into a magical spot... the new Flowerland.

With her background in professional gardening, her lifetime love of nurseries, and her merchandising experience, she continues to morph this place into more than a nursery; a place for creative ideas, beautiful ...

Domingos Totora...A Recycle Artist and Genius

January 31, 2012

My first thought when discovering his work was "impossible...this can't be recycled cardboard!"

But it is...and oh, Domigos Totora's work is incredible.

After studying design in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Domingos returned to his small hometown of Maria Da Fe, a city in the region of Minas Gerais in Brazil and chose cardboard as the source material for his work. The surrounding nature serves as his source of inspiration.

Starting with recycled cardboard, he creates objects and sculptures where beau...

I Wound It Through The Grapevine

January 27, 2012

...the electrical wire, that is.

What can you do with some old grapevine and a little electrical wire?

Make a unique, modern yet rustic table or mantle light!

All you need is some colorful wire,

a socket for one end of the wire,

a plug for the other end of the wire,

a fabulous old Edison Filament Bulb,
